Javeria Salar Khan is an artist hailing from Dir, a remote region of North Western Pakistan. A land with rich cultural and artistic heritage spanning multiple civilizations, eras and techniques. She is a graduate of Pakistan’s prestigious National College of Arts (NCA), and focuses on the use of color, darkness, geometric forms and patterns to depict realities around her and how humans perceive the all-encompassing and ever-present cosmos.
Khan believes that darkness is disliked by many and labelled as being evil and feared, yet people overlook just how darkness actually showcases the beauty of light itself and the vibrance of the very colors we as humans desire to see. She is passionate about working with fluorescent colors, for they are best visible and come to life when viewed against their opposite, a dark backdrop. To her light is nothing without the dark and opposites are actually at their best when viewed together.
The billions of suns, moons, planets, galaxies and constellations with all their vibrance amount to nothing if there was no darkness and lack of vibrance in the universe.
Khan focuses on the use of color, darkness, geometric forms and patterns to depict realities that span the vastness of the Universe and how humans perceive the cosmos.
“To me light is nothing without the dark, and opposites are at their best when viewed together.”
