Starfall

Starfall (2025) draws inspiration from the fleeting brilliance of celestial phenomena, exploring the relationship between light, materiality and the experience of transience. Through the interaction of crystal glass, fluorescent pigments and ultraviolet illumination, Salar considers how moments of extraordinary luminosity might be evoked through physical materials.

The work brings together transparency, colour and artificial light, using the optical qualities of glass and the heightened visibility of fluorescent pigments to explore the tension between substance and illumination. Its title recalls the passage of luminous bodies across the night sky, suggesting an encounter with phenomena whose beauty is inseparable from their apparent impermanence.

Within this interplay of material and light, Starfall considers the relationship between what can be held and what can only be momentarily perceived. The work invites contemplation of the fleeting nature of celestial encounters and the enduring sense of wonder they can leave behind.
