Cosmic Reflections
Kaleidoscope
Cosmic Reflections (2024) explores the relationship between reflection, symmetry and the geometric patterns that recur throughout the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the visual structures of the cosmos, Salar investigates how the interaction of light and reflective surfaces can transform familiar forms into intricate arrangements of colour and geometry.
The work takes the form of a wall-mounted kaleidoscopic sculpture constructed using mirrors, acrylic, wood, an optical lens and illumination. Within its enclosed structure, reflected images multiply to produce symmetrical configurations whose apparent complexity emerges from the repetition of comparatively simple visual elements. The resulting patterns evoke the relationship between individual forms and the larger structures of which they become part.
Reflection functions here as more than an optical effect. By multiplying and reorganising what is visible, it draws attention to the relationship between the physical object and the image perceived by its observer. The artwork occupies a defined space, yet the visual compositions it generates appear to extend beyond those boundaries.
Through this interplay of light, geometry and perception, Cosmic Reflections invites the viewer to discover complexity within repetition and to consider how familiar forms can give rise to entirely new visual relationships.
