Urban Star Fields: Bridging the Cosmos and the Cityscape
Urban Star Fields explores the increasingly distant relationship between urban life and the celestial environment. In cities shaped by artificial illumination, atmospheric pollution and the rhythms of modern existence, the night sky has gradually receded from everyday experience. The work seeks to restore a sense of connection with the cosmos, bringing celestial imagery into the spaces of ordinary human activity.
Combining painting, digital projection and sculptural optical devices, Salar creates a visual encounter in which colour, light, geometry and movement evoke the complexity and apparent boundlessness of the universe. Circular paintings suggest celestial formations, while projected imagery introduces movement and changing patterns of illumination. Wall-mounted kaleidoscopes extend this experience through reflection and refraction, generating shifting geometric configurations that invite closer observation.
Rather than attempting to reproduce astronomical phenomena with scientific precision, Urban Star Fields draws upon their visual richness to alter the viewer's experience of familiar surroundings. The interplay between physical objects and projected light creates a dialogue between the tangible and the seemingly infinite, bringing the distant cosmos into immediate perceptual reach.
Ultimately, Urban Star Fields invites a moment of contemplation amid the distractions of urban existence, encouraging viewers to rediscover their connection with the universe beyond the visible cityscape and to consider their own place within its immeasurable vastness.
